The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is a subscriber to Magna, which provides on-demand faculty development resources, including online seminars. The institutional subscription provides UAB faculty and staff with instant access to Magna content, current and archived.

Magna offers Magna Commons, 20-Minute Mentor Commons, Teaching Professor, and The Journal of Faculty of Development. 

Magna Commons offers on-demand versions of Magna's most popular Magna Online Seminars, covering a broad range of topics of interest to faculty and administrators.

20-Minute Mentor Commons offers on-demand versions of Magna's popular 20-Minute Mentor programs, covering a broad range of faculty development topics.

Teaching Professor offers a highly informative newsletter with a singular purpose: to provide ideas and insight to educators who are passionate about teaching. A source of cutting-edge information and inspiration for more than 10,000 educators at universities and colleges worldwide.

Note: Users must make an account before having access to Magna content. If you have not created an account, Create a Magna Account before proceeding.
 
  1. Navigate to the MagnaPubs webpage.
  2. Login with your UAB email address and your password for Magna. Users who don't have an account or forgot their password can create/edit their account here. 
  3. Click the Go to Magna Online Courses (A) button to view Magna Commons or 20-Minute Mentor Videos. Click Go to Teaching Professor (B) to view articles included with the subscription.

Access Content from Newsletter

 

Magna Professional Development for Higher Education sends out email newsletters to subscribers periodically highlighting content from one of the UAB subscriptions. Clicking on the links within the Magna newsletter email will invite users to purchase a subscription. UAB has already purchased a subscription which allows access to this content at no additional cost. The information below provides instructions on how to access content highlighted in the Magna newsletter.

  1. Copy the name of the video (A) you are interested in viewing on the email.
  2. Navigate to the MagnaPubs webpage.
  3. Login with your UAB email address and your password for Magna.
  4. Click the Go to Magna Online Courses (B) button.
  5. Scroll down on the webpage until you see Browse. Paste or type the desired title of the video into the textbox below Browse (C) and click enter.
    Tip: This area is also where users can search and filter through all the resources available through the UAB subscriptions.

  6. The video results will display. Click the video (D) to watch/view the resource.
